Having seen the name slung around the list a fair bit recently, I thought I'd investigate further... Maybe I was just lucky, but the first track I downloaded (caution : avoid napster thread) was Svefn G Englar. Wow. ... I'm absolutely itching to hear this in some highly altered states However, all the other Sigur Ros tracks I have found have been 'quirky' at best... garden gnome orchestrations; not this awesome engulfing wave that swallowed me so deeply. What other tracks should I get that are more like this? I really appreciate the singing style... it sounds ethereal, suits the music, and is at least something different and interesting. A lot of people I tell about this get kind of embarassed when they find out the lyricist is male... add this to the sheer potency of the music, and I can see that sometimes its hard to get past the dramatic aspects of it... personally I _like_ the sound It does something to me... I listen to it, and I feel different afterwards, and I think thats what good music is about... --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

My girlfreind and myself are going to be in Europe late march early April. Could anybody suggest any small events, clubs, record stores, galleries worth checking out. We already have tickets for ATP and thee Jah Wobble/Pole event. We will be in London from March 26th-31st then off to Amsterdam from April 1st-4th then back to London for ATP. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Jeremy Jesse P Buehler <pulsewidth@juno.com> wrote: OMG, they are amazing. They have a sound that I though was gone for so long. i liked ?g?tis Byrjun a lot. vocals in what they claim is a "made up" language are a nice added touch over fun sounds. if you're pretentious about having kkkkkkutting edge, marginalized musical tastes, maybe take note: *it made thom yorke's top five favorite albums of <some recent time interval> *most of my strictlie indie rockie friends like it too. *my dad has three balls so do with that what you will. I would be interested in what people thought of the non ?g?tis Byrjun tracks on the two 12"s that they put out before(?) the full length... ...and so would dad, that pitiful three-balled fuck. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Hell yes, this album is damn worth the hype and then some. My favorite album to come out in years... (since Chiastic Slide, i guess hmm..)
quoted 4 lines so do with that what you will.> so do with that what you will. > > I would be interested in what people thought of the non Ágætis Byrjun tracks > on the two 12"s that they put out before(?) the full length...
Not sure about the 12"s but i've a burnt copy of their first album Von and the remix cd that followed. Von is very different than Agaetis, with maybe 4 tracks with discernable vocals. Many of the tracks, including the 10 minute first track titled after the band, are textural ambient and atmospheric pieces, with no "melodies" contained within. Along with these are more traditional "bandesque" songs with drums, guitar and vocals. The album as a whole flows very well, and has some amazing songs to boot. Try and get a hold of it if you can. I'm sure it's hard as hell to find outside of Iceland, since i don't think it's distributed in either Europe or the US (just Iceland). The remix album is kinda lackluster, with some decent tracks and some poopy ones. -Mark --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

i liked Ágætis Byrjun a lot. vocals in what they claim is a "made up" language are a nice added touch over fun sounds. if you're pretentious about having kkkkkkutting edge, marginalized musical tastes, maybe take note: *it made thom yorke's top five favorite albums of <some recent time interval> *most of my strictlie indie rockie friends like it too. *my dad has three balls so do with that what you will. I would be interested in what people thought of the non Ágætis Byrjun tracks on the two 12"s that they put out before(?) the full length... ...and so would dad, that pitiful three-balled fuck. _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

Indeed. There's a pretty lengthy article on the band in today's New York Times Magazine. You can probably dig it up on nytimes.com if you're resourceful enough. -rob ps- anybody with extra tickets to their NY show, please do get in touch --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

actually, thats inacurate. all the songs do have names, with which the musics were refered to during their last year in concert (because, yes, these are the tracks sigur rós were touring with -- and a couple from agaetis b.). they were removed for this album as a part of the minimalistic concept. here you go: track 1 - vaka (the name of orri's daughter) track 2 - fyrsta (the first song) track 3 - samskeyti (attachment) track 4 - njósnavélin (the spy machine) track 5 - álafoss (the location of the band's studio) track 6 - e-bow [georg uses an e-bow on his bass in this song] track 7 - dauðalagið (the death song) track 8 - popplagið (the pop song) take care, fred enoughrecords.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org

well, that said, i personllay don't take these 'song titles' into consideration when considering sigur's packaging aesthetic/overall-art-mission. these are basically meaningless titles the band attached to the songs while touring them simply so that they could refer to them more easily (instead of "you know, the slow song..."). ever look at a band's stage set list? there will be song titles like "drum solo song" "cheesy heavy metal song" and "party jam" ... i wouldn't consider these track titles as part of sigur's message.

erm... I don't know what bands you're going to see, but the bands I know and deal with do this when they haven't settled on a name for a song yet. Legendary Crystal Chandelier has a few songs like that now, and Chomsky's always changing the names of their songs. --------------------------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, e-mail: idm-unsubscribe@hyperreal.org For additional commands, e-mail: idm-help@hyperreal.org
